02. Valle de Angeles & Santa Lucía Tour
A picturesque mining town, located less than 30 Km from Tegucigalpa, Valle de Angeles retains its Spanish colonial atmosphere.Valle de Angeles (Valley of Angels), a name that fits the beauty of the place. There you can visit the halls of exhibits of varied handicrafts from around Honduras. There are many souvenirs and art gallery’s, and also several different restaurants.
After visiting this beautiful town you will head out to Santa Lucía, located approximately 5,000ft above sea level, and surrounded by pine forest. During Colonial times, the mountains around this town were mined for quite a time and the town became important to the Spanish crown because of this.
During the late XVI century, the king of Spain ordered a crucifix of Christ built for the local church. Today, although the church suffered many modifications and expansions until its present building, this was finished just prior to the independence of Honduras, the figure of Christ donated by Spanish crown in 1574 still remains.
We will take you inside de church and you will have a unique experience.The town is still very small, perhaps it’s most distinguishing fact is that people have always cultivated flowers to be sold in capital’s markets. As such you will find many colorful gardens with different varieties of tropical flowers.
